A Decisive Win for Tigres in Aguascalientes
AGUASCALIENTES, February 1st.- Tigres Women are back on top of Group Two in the Women’s Liga MX, after a 4-1 away win over Necaxa on the sixth Match Day of the Clausura 2019 tournament.
This victory brings them to 13 points, in six games, with a goal difference of +11, positioning the team, for now, ahead of Atlas and Monterrey, their closest rivals.
From the very beginning, our team was visibly in control of the match, with ball possession and good overlapping, to the extent that, just six minutes in, Liliana Mercado opened the scoring with a shot from inside the box.
Necaxa Women began to advance sporadically, generating a few opportunities face-to-face with Vania Villalobos, our goalkeeper who is just 15 years old.
At minute 15, a long pass from Evelyn González seeking Belén Cruz went over the goal line, missing the chance to increase the score to two. Then, at 17’, Evelyn’s header was too high.
Our players were becoming increasingly alert and penetrating the box dangerously. At 25’, the goalkeeper saved a shot by Cristina Ferral that found Katty Martínez on the rebound, but her attempt was also intercepted by the netkeeper.
And just when Tigres was coming close to their second, a mistake by the defense ended in a goal by Necaxa, at 34’, when Nohelí Enriquez lobbed the ball over keeper Vania to make it 1-1 and give the home side hope.
However, Tigres was very soon back in control of the score, when, at 39’, Katty Martínez broke into the box in an individual play to defeat goalkeeper Rivera, making it 2-1.
In the second half, the match was still controlled by the same side, with Tigres Women dominating in possession against an opponent that barely made an effort to avoid a defeat, which they were ultimately unable to achieve.
At minute 50, Lizbeth Ovalle put the goalkeeper to the test again, with a shot that was on target but weak enough for Andrea Rivera to save. Rivera then managed to intercept yet another close shot by Ovalle at 53’.
Just seconds later, Ovalle’s persistence was finally rewarded, when she scored the third inside the box, putting our team on the path to victory.
Four minutes later, the fourth goal of the evening was scored by Evelyn González, who finished inside the box, assuring victory for our side.
