I’ll Use My Best Players.- Tuca
SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, April 15th.- For this Saturday’s match, against Morelia, manager Ricardo Ferretti will use his best players, since his objective is to take over the leadership position currently held by León.
“I have to consider my players’ recovery, but for the match against Morelia, I’ll be using my best players to obtain a good result and, in this way, practically secure at least second place.
“Then after Saturday, I’ll be thinking differently or otherwise, but for the Morelia game and the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League Final, we’ll be using the best we’ve got.”
Playoff spot secured…
“I think that the fact that we earned three points yesterday and qualified mathematically gives us a certain level of reassurance, and also fulfills the commitment we set at the start of the tournament.
“Lately, we had always been struggling around this time, in fact, people had commented that Tigres would be waiting until the last five or six games to start looking for their qualification, that we were always somewhat behind.
“But in the last three games, which can translate into nine points, we have to think about winning as far as possible so as to hold onto the position we have right now and even think about first place, currently and deservedly, for everything they’ve achieved, held by León.
“A while ago, I commented that in this tournament León is the team to beat because of everything they have achieved and also that qualifying ten times in a row must mean that we’re doing things right.”
Aspiring to first place…
“We’re not taking it easy because otherwise it might seem that we’re not interested in the next possible nine points and if we don’t earn points, we’ll move down. We aspire to first place and if we didn’t think like that, we could drop to third or fourth, which wouldn’t be good for us.”
We’re below standard…
“We’re still way below the standard I think the team has the potential to reach. Perhaps it’s an exaggeration, but we’re not up to standard and we still haven’t found the balance we’re looking for.
“The idea is to win each upcoming match, that’s our idea and if we manage to do it, well, we’ll be reaching our objectives. If we win on Saturday, then basically we will have assured second place.
“However, we should always be ambitious and look for more and more. Of course, León has the advantage, I think they are performing well. In the Concacaf Champions League, it’s the same, with the idea of getting a good result in the first leg and in the second as well, not just being content with getting ahead and then suffering like we did against Santos. I think that we played well in the first half, but in the second we left a lot to be desired.”
Regarding Julián Quiñones’ injury…
“In five minutes, Julián will be undergoing tests to determine the seriousness of his injury. It doesn’t look too good at the moment, but let’s hope that after the examination we’ll have better news. It’s such a shame because he’s a player who is in a very good position at the moment. He looked for and found his objective, he was being extremely consistent, producing very well and this will affect us a lot. I think the absence of these players has a huge impact on us and particularly when it’s the result of injuries. Let’s hope we can report something positive about the examination tomorrow, but right now the situation is difficult.”
