Last-Minute Draw for Tigres Women

SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, January 28.- In the very last play, just before the final whistle, Tigres Women missed their chance at winning the Monterrey Derby against Rayadas, drawing 1-1 in the Clausura 2019 tournament of the Women’s Liga MX.

Our players went ahead 1-0 in the first half and, in the very last play of the match, at minute 94, Rayadas had a chance with a free kick, breaking into the box where Mariana Cadena came forward to equalize. Katty Martínez had already opened the scoring beforehand.

FIRST HALF

The first half, particularly in the first few minutes, was intense, with both teams coming and going. Tigres Women dominated in possession, though it was the opponent who managed to generate opportunities.

At minute 13, Ofelia Solís came off her line to clear the ball, which found an opponent, who crossed to Daniela Solís, but, Cristina Ferral came forward to intercept her right-footed attempt on the line, saving her team.

Our players reacted almost immediately, since, at 21’, Jacqueline Ovalle’s shot from inside the box was blocked by the keeper, who conceded a corner.

A minute later, it was Nancy Antonio’s turn, with a shot from the right that the goalkeeper only just managed to clear for a corner.

Tigres Women’s persistence was rewarded at 24’, when Belén Cruz, down the center, crossed to Katty Martínez, who moved into the box and shot as the goalkeeper came off her line, bringing the score to 1-0.

Jubilation in the Universitario Stadium reached boiling point, while Ofelia Solís, our goalkeeper, blocked a shot, conceding a corner.

At that moment, we had the ball and were ahead on the scoreboard, insisting on attacking, but without losing focus against an opponent that refused to give up.

SECOND HALF

Tigres continued with ball possession in the second half, waiting for the opponent to open up more since they needed to attack in order to equalize.

At minute 50, our ladies came close with a loose ball inside the box and, just as they were about to finish, the defense intervened.

Soon after, at 59’, Belén Cruz crossed into the box, but Jacqueline Ovalle’s header was intercepted by the goalkeeper.

Then, at 65’, a left-footed shot by Jacqueline Ovalle missed to the right. A second goal by our players was beginning to seem more likely than the equalizer.

Nevertheless, Rayadas was beginning to move forwards and put our goalkeeper to the test at both 60’ and 62’, though she managed to ward off any danger.

Time was gradually becoming Tigres Women’s ally, and, at 87’, they had a chance with a powerful shot by Ovalle, but it was off target.

Even towards the end, Blanca Solís broke away into the penalty area, but the keeper came off her line and intervened, putting an end to this opportunity.

But in the very last play, Dinora Garza passed into the box off a free kick, the defense is unable to clear the ball, so Mariana Cadena nudged in the equalizer.
