Pres-season full steam ahead

SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, December 26th.- Preparation for the Clausura 2019 Tournament is so intense that Guido Pizarro even scored a superb goal from the midfield, a play manager Ricardo Ferretti (known as Tuca) deemed to be the finishing touch to the day’s training session.

This preseason has been intense, powerful, with double sessions some days, leaving nothing to improvisation and football tactics as the constant, and resting only on the 24th and 25th for the Christmas holiday.

As of today, the squad will be working for 11 days running until the start of the Liga, when they will be visiting León on Saturday, January 5th. Double sessions recommence this Thursday with training starting at 9:00 in Zuazua and at 17:00 hours in the Universitario Stadium.

The common denominator of this phase has been aerial work, the team’s Achilles’ heel during the last tournament, where Tigres conceded more goals than usual in a season.

Tuca has insisted on working on recovery and overlapping, emphasizing plays on the flanks and goal shots.

Jürgen Damm and Lucas Zelarayán, who were both injured in the last tournament, the former with a muscular trauma and the latter with a broken right foot, have now started working at the same pace as the rest of the team.

In fact, today they played with the reserves in the inter-squad game, where Pizarro, seeing that the goalkeeper had come off his line, did not hesitate to shoot from behind the half-way line, scoring a superb goal with which Tuca put an end to the day’s training session.

Tigres will be working at La Cueva in Zuazua and the Stadium over the next few days and, this Sunday, are playing their only preparatory match against Veracruz. Confirmation of whether or not it will be behind closed doors is pending.

Luis and Venegas participating

This tournament’s reinforcements, Luis Quiñones, who is back after being on loan to Lobos and Toluca, and Francisco Venegas, from the Chilean league, have been participating 100% in the training sessions.

Quiñones has been included as a starter in some of the inter-squad games, together with Enner Valencia and Julián Quiñones, while Venegas has been a key factor in the reserve side, mainly as a left winger.
