The Derby Is Ours

GUADALUPE, March 25th.- Tigres Women put an end to Rayadas’ unbeaten streak by winning the local Derby in the Women’s Liga MX with a minimum difference of 1-0 and claiming the top spot in Group Two.

With this win, thanks to a goal by Katty Martínez, our team now has a total of 29 points, just one behind Pachuca, and equalizing those of Rayadas and América.

FIRST HALF

Only three minutes had gone by when Liliana Mercado escaped along the left flank and managed to cut back just before the ball went over the line, but the defense intercepted, putting an end to the threat.

Afterwards, the road ahead improved for our players, since at 8’ Evelyn González broke away down the center only to be tripped up by Mariana Cadena, who was immediately shown a red card, leaving Rayadas one woman down.

At that point in the match, Tigres Women took control of possession, though had difficulty in their overlapping, forcing them to make use of the flanks as their breakaway zone.

At 23’, Lizbeth Ovalle broke away along the right, crossed into the goal area, where the defense intervened, conceding a corner. A minute later, Belén Cruz attacked down the center, but the defense intercepted her shot yet again.

Rayadas tried to react at 31’ when our goalkeeper, Ofelia Solís, one-handedly cleared a ball inside her area.

Tigres Women responded  a minute later with a backheel by Lizbeth Ovalle to find Belén Cruz, who came very close to scoring a superb goal, but only just missed to the left.

However, the opponent wasn’t about to give anything away and, at 38’, came so close that we only just escaped, when Selene Cortés intercepted a shot in front of an empty net and, in the counterattack, Daniela Solís sent the ball too high over the crossbar.

SECOND HALF

After the break, Tigres Women came out onto the pitch seeking to capitalize on their numerical advantage and, at 47’, Katty Martínez got off a shot looking for the left post, but goalkeeper Claudia Lozoya cleared the ball out of play, giving away a corner.

Katty Martínez tried her luck again at 60’, when her mid-distance shot came close but missed to the left.

And, at the 65th minute, Belén Cruz penetrated the box in an individual play, the goalkeeper cleared and the ball reached Katty Martínez, whose shot was also saved but bounced back to her and she pushed it in to make it 1-0 and send the Tigres fans wild in the Rayadas’ Stadium.

Tigres Women dominated in possession, but the opponent, now that they were trailing behind, endeavored to attack with all ten players. In fact, at 73’ Desirée Monsivaís, who had just come on, entered the box but her cross went wide to the left.

At 88’, Belén Cruz received outside the box and managed to shoot in two moves, though the keeper had no trouble blocking the attempt.
