This Saturday will be historic for ‘Tuca’

SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, Friday, November 9, 2018.- This Saturday, when the referee blows the starting whistle, a new page will be written in the annals of the UANL Tigres and Mexican football as a whole.

Ricardo Ferretti, our manager, will be on a par with a legend in Mexico’s football, Don Nacho Trelles, who holds the record for having directed 1,081 Liga and Playoff matches, which ‘Tuca’ will be equaling when he competes against Puebla.

The difference between the two managers, perhaps, is that Trelles achieved this over a 41-year career as a coach, while ‘Tuca’, our manager, took just 27 years to accomplish this feat.

Many years seem to have gone by since that September 15,1991, when, in his debut as a coach, ‘Tuca’ defeated the Ciudad Juárez Cobras 3-1. Since then, he has been at the helm of Pumas, Guadalajara, Toluca and Morelia, as well as our team in three different stages.

In fact, if the team secures a spot in the Apertura 2018 Playoffs, the club will be participating for the ninth time running in the Final phase of a tournament, something that only América has achieved in short tournaments.

With ‘Tuca’, Tigres have been League Champions four times (2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017) and runner-up twice (2017 and 2014); three-times champion of champions (2016, 2017 and 2018) and Copa Champion (2014).

Internationally, Ferretti, with Tigres, has been runner-up in the Copa Libertadores (2015), two-times Concacaf runner-up (2016 and 2017) and champion of the Champions Cup (2018).

‘Tuca’ will be, like Don Nacho Trelles, a living legend who will always be on the pages of the history of our club and of Mexican football.

NOTE: (*) In the 1967-1968 season, he was called up to direct the National Team in the 1967 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Canada. The tournament was held from July 23 to August 6, 1967, and, therefore, he was absent from Toluca on days 3 and 4 (July 23 and 30, 1967). This is why his total is 1,081 and not 1,083.
