Tigres Women 4-0 Victory!
SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, February 9th.- Tigres Women continue to reign supreme in the Women’s Liga MX, after a superb 4-0 victory this evening over the Morelia Monarcas – their fifth win in the Clausura 2019 tournament.
This victory brings them to 16 points, puts them in the Liga leadership position for now and keeps them at the top of Group Two.
The start of the match was intense for our side, who were beginning to pass the ball in every sector of the field, seeking to penetrate a seemingly lackluster opponent’s box.
Just three minutes in, Katty Martínez crashed the ball into the right post, to the relief of Morelia who were doing their best to defend their net.
But the opponent was not ready to surrender without a fight and, at minute eight, Diana Guatemala broke away in a clear counterattack, penetrated the box and, as keeper Ofelia came off her line, crossed but missed to the left.
Tigres realized that they couldn’t underestimate the opponent and later, at the 17-minute mark, Katty once more hit the woodwork and then a defender’s arm, earning a penalty.
A minute afterwards, Liliana Mercado converted brilliantly, to the right of the goalkeeper, putting Tigres Women ahead 1-0 and on track to their fifth victory of the tournament.
The pace in the second half was similar to the first, and, at 53’, Jacqueline Ovalle came very close to the second, when the goalkeeper made a mistake and left a ball loose outside the box, but she was unable to control and shoot.
Ovalle persisted, this time with a direct free kick that hit the wall and her reward was just a corner kick. Later, at 60’, Evelyn González attacked individually, but her attempt was wide to the right.
Ovalle had yet another opportunity when, at minute 62, assisted by Belén Cruz from the left, she made her way into the box, but her shot was wide of the left post.
At minute 65, our side came close to their second goal, but keeper Maricruz González saved a shot by Ovalle. However, her resistance only lasted until 66’, when Katty Martínez found the ball in the box and scored with a powerful shot, making it 2-0.
Two minutes on, Morelia responded, when María Cruzley’s free kick hit the crossbar, just missing the visitor’s first.
Then, at 72’, Ofelia Solís got the upper hand in a one-on-one with Cruzley, who had broken into the box unmarked in a play that looked as though it would be successful. And 35 seconds later, our goalkeeper yet again blocked the opponent’s attempt.
Katty Martínez came close to the third, when she received unmarked in the penalty area, but the defense intercepted her shot at 82’.
Soon after, at 84’, the referee showed the visitors the red card for a foul on Katty. She took the penalty shot herself and put the ball inside the left post, making it 3-0.
Only a minute went by before the forth of the evening was on the scoreboard. Ovalle broke away down the left, entered the box and made it 4-0 with an unstoppable shot.
