We Can Cope with the Liga and Concacaf.- Damm

SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, March 21st.- Tigres has a squad that can cope with the Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions League, affirmed Jürgen Damm, who is confident that the team will do well.

“Competing in two tournaments – from the very beginning of a tournament the objective is to finish in the top three places and we’re on the right track in both of them. I think we have an excellent group, a great squad and will be able to cope with both tournaments.

“Any player who is in either of the tournaments will do a good job because there’s quality. The goal is the same for both of them. We’re not going to prioritize a tournament and the objective, our obligation, is to be champions in the CONCACAF Champions League and the Liga,” Damm declared.

In an unusual press conference, since it took place before the training session, the midfielder explained that the injury that has been troubling him for weeks is now in the past.

“Fortunately, I’ve recovered and am now working at the same pace as the others, getting back on form physically and in my game, so that when the coach decides to send me on, I’ll be ready and at the best possible level.

“It’s been a difficult tournament regarding injuries. I had a muscle injury, then a relapse. After excellent physical therapy, I’m ready if I’m needed and, if not, I’ll carry on supporting the team. We’re on the right track.”

Will the FIFA calendar help the team?

“Yes, so that the whole team will be available and they can select the appropriate starting eleven for the Concacaf and Liga matches. The two tournaments are in their final stretch and in both of them we’re generating the obligation and the commitment to give our supporters, the group and the directors our all. It’s important for everyone to be on top form and available, and then ‘el profe’ will decide who’s going to play.”

A few days away from seven years in the First Division…

“I’m very happy to have been in the First Division for seven yours. As they say, it’s not difficult getting there, but staying. I’m very happy to have been in this great profession for seven years and want to carry on and try to make the most of my time and establish myself in Tigres, a team with the best squad not only in Mexico, but also the continent.

“It’s an amazing challenge, an enormous test to establish myself with such good players. God willing, I’ll be able to live up to the trust the players, the fans and, of course, the coaches placed in me, all of them have supported me across these four years here in Tigres”.

There’s an outstanding debt…

“I know I’ve still got a lot more to give this Club, with what they’ve invested in me, supported me, I think there’s so much more I can still give them. So, I need to carry on working, carry on fulfilling objectives, winning championships and, personally, to give everything I’ve got to football so I can give Tigres many more reasons to celebrate.”

    Glad for the Quiñones…

“In general, the whole team is performing well and they are also making a difference, scoring goals. They’ve done a fine job, they’re players who have grown a lot. Whoever is playing, we always support them, that’s fundamental”.

The media insists on asking players to imagine another local derby in the final…

“It would be nice, it’s happened before in the Liga and the atmosphere was amazing, the Derby with the most passion, it was a fantastic Final and now repeating it in the Concacaf Champions League, well, why not?  We’re the teams who are doing best, but both sides have another match first – we’re playing Santos, a team we respect a great deal, that’s always a difficult opponent. We can’t think about the final yet, we have to play in the Semifinal first, but, if it happens, it would be very special.”

The standard of football is growing…

“We’re reaching a pretty high standard of football, something not only the group, the directors and the coaching staff all wanted, but also the fans, spectacular football, with goals, and I think we’re achieving that.

“And, actually, we’re one of the teams that’s putting on the best performance for the fans and it’s important to play good football, while prioritizing the result, which will always be the most important aspect, achieving results, championships and if you can play spectacular football, that’s even better. But, what’s most important for us right now is to stay in the top spot, first place in the table and finish this fantastic season we’ve had with a title.”
